Diversity. Inclusion. Nondiscrimination. These are not simply today’s employment law “buzz-words”, but rather cornerstones of a thriving and successful workplace. This insightful program encourages participants to recognize and examine the threshold concepts that lead to workplace bias, unfairness, discord, and ultimately legal liability. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, more than ever before, is targeting flawed employer decision making based on “unconscious stereotypes about the abilities, traits, or performance” of your employees. This program addresses these issues head-on.
Participants gain insights about how administrators, managers and employees can unwittingly marginalize women and minorities in the workplace. It examines the biases (both positive and negative) that everyone carries each day. We can too often draw inferences from our own lives and own experiences that we then mistakenly assume are true in all situations. These assumptions, however, often lead to false stereotyping. This can in turn lead to inadvertent, but nonetheless, hurtful, and sometimes illegal behaviors in the workplace.
The program provides strategies for addressing these biases which include evaluating all employment-related decisions for these mistaken assumptions. We all need to take time to recognize the existence and importance of unconscious bias and make this analysis part of our decision and policy making process.

About the Presenter
Michael L. Dodd, Partner, Ferrara Fiorenza PC. Mike works closely with employers of all types with respect to complex employment law issues, day-to-day human resources management, statutory/regulatory compliance and employment related litigation defense. Mike frequently conducts training workshops and seminars with respect to all aspects of fostering a vibrant and legally compliant workplace and speaks before various organizations with respect to these topics as well.
