Class 6: Effective Implementation of Teacher Improvement Plans – Part 2

A good TIP is not enough; it requires effective implementation by both the teacher and the supervising administrator. This workshop will show how to observe for improvement and how to document whether or not it has occurred. It will consider when it is reasonable to modify the objectives, to ex-tend the time limit, or to declare success and terminate the TIP.

The law now requires TIPs for teachers who are rated less than effective. But how do you make it work? How much improvement is enough improvement? Are there times when a TIP is appropriate although not required by law? The workshop will examine when and how to put a TIP in place. It offers effective techniques for describing the problems to be addressed, for engaging the teacher in writing the TIP, for describing how progress will be measured, and for setting the deadline for acceptable improvement.
